Equine-assisted therapy includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language pathology and mental health professionals.
Horses used in a therapy setting have received specialized training in order to optimize the movement quality transmitted to the participant. The movement of the horse is multi-dimensional and provides stimulation of what a normal walking pattern should feel like. It is rhythmic in its up and down, side to side, forward and back movement. Our OT, Marilyn, is showing the movement with the horse and rider at the walk.
Equine-assisted therapies are provided with a licensed therapy professional partnering with a PATH Intl. certified (CTRI) professional related to the therapy being provided.
Mental Health: The mental health professional partners with the horse and the PATH Intl CTRI instructor to evoke emotional and physical responses.
